GB Bus Group Publications Announcement
It is regrettable that following lengthy negotiations, GB Bus Group (GBBG) has been unable to maintain a working relationship with HB Publications Ltd (HBP). Despite signing an agreement in early 2009, HBP gave us notice at the end of 2009 that it would no longer require an input from GBBG for the 2011 books. Under the terms of the same Agreement HBP has failed to pay GBBG agreed royalties for work carried out by compilers for the production of the 2010 books.
A consequence of this is that with immediate effect GBBG will have no further dealings with HBP and will not endorse their books with our logo or name. This also means that HBP will no longer promote the GB Bus Group or offer a 20% discount to members. Any remaining 2010 books still being compiled will be done so for HBP on the understanding that no benefit will accrue to GBBG. We thank all the compilers for their efforts on behalf of GBBG and fully understand if some continue in that role solely for HBP, who will continue to publish the existing titles under their own banner.
It is however intended that the GB Bus Group will produce its own comprehensive bus books for enthusiasts and members will still receive a 20% discount on these publications. The timescale, form and content of these books has yet to be decided but it is intended that they will be released throughout the year. Any profit raised from sales will be for the sole benefit of the Group, funding improvements to the magazine and website.
Another consequence of the loss of income to GBBG from publications is the need to cover the costs of producing Trident and running the Group. The current membership fee does not do that, so this will rise from £13 to £15 from 1st May 2010 (£27 for Joint Membership with Inter City Railway Society (ICRS) saving £4 on separate subscription fees, subject to agreement at the ICRS AGM in April). Both fees are still good value for money. To help members join or renew, we are introducing a PayPal service, as successfully used by our sister Society ICRS.
GBBG is still young, but is a growing and vibrant Group with membership up 25% during 2009. We are respected in the wider bus enthusiast community and we have exciting proactive plans for the future. We hope you will continue to support the Group and the sterling efforts of those responsible for the content and production of our monthly magazine Trident, which alone is worth being a member.
